Shades of grey
Selasi has released a digital EP named Shades Of Grey. On this EP he blends his African roots with some Caribbean aroma along with his American influences into a sound which is not entire African, Caribbean or American but rather bits of each. Hence, the title Shades of Grey. The sound is unique, smooth and endowed with freshness. A sound which he describes as Global pop.
Selasi ‘s music is an epitome of diversification. Nevertheless, the sound is easy to recognize likewise the sounds of Ryan Leslie which are also easy to recognize by the patterns and instrumentals. Shades Of Grey is a document of six good tracks which Selasi can be proud of. Every track on the EP portrays quality, meticulous placement and timing of the instrumentals. The first single Call the Police is a great piece of reggae which can easily become your summer anthem. Imagine bumping this under a cool shade on a hot summer day with a couple of friends and acquaintances.
Besides Call the Police, Ups and Downs, Tear Up The Floor and Rock Steady are among my favorites. The tracks talks about life, in the sense of good times, ups and downs, bad times etc. These are the things people relate to easily. Thus, Shades of Grey can easily cross borders and become appealing to many across the globe.
