Today is the first Tuesday of the year. 2016 brought us the following valuable lesson: quality things require time and patience. With that said, the African music scene keeps growing and we just had to share what we consider quality music. That includes a new artist we have discovered: NanaYaa. Charle, you should hear this!
NanaYaa – Handkerchief ft Samini
A new artist we discovered is Ghanaian highlife singer NanaYaa, the daughter of Lola Everette and highlife legend Pat Thomas. She fills the shoes of her father by not only making music, but also making highlife, but with a touch of soul. She collaborates with Samini on her single called Handkerchief, a record about having a long-distance relationship. We feel that this collaboration with Samini is perfect. The feel he gives on this single is reminiscent of his early 2000’s music. We love NanaYaa’s voice. And we recommend you also listen to Biako Ye ft Fapempong.
Vanessa Mdee – Cash Madame
One of Africa’s pop stars, Vanessa Mdee is one that the whole of Africa needs to lookout for. Already referred to as East Africa’s leading female artist, she is a young multi-talent that looks great, sounds great and most importantly, her music gets people to dance. It’s announced that she will be joining the MTV Shuga Season 5 Cast. We can already tell that 2017 already looks promising to Vanessa Mdee.
Wizkid – Dady Yo
We suspect that you have heard of Wizkid’s music somewhere this week. His latest release: Dady Yo kept playing in my head. Wizkid collaborates this time with Efya, the first lady of his music label Starboy. The song gives us more of a Caribbean feel. But we love the catchiness of the song. I do wonder why Efya has not been given credit for lending her vocals. But hey that’s not our worry. She looks great!
Have a great rest of the week!
