Congrats to Sarkodie, Tiwa Savage and Davido on their BET nominations

BET awards 2014 nominees

There’s a high probability that you have heard the good news. BET announced their nominees and in the category International acts: Africa, mr. Sark, lady Tiwa and badboy Davido are nominated! It is such a delight to see more African artist receive recognition from international platforms. Being an artist is not easy and it’s good to see that their hard work pays of well well.

 Sarkodie

This year’s nomination isn’t Sarkodie’s first. As a matter of fact, he took a prize home in 2012. And spit some bars on BET Cypher (watch here and here). After the successful records he released over the past year, like Down On One, Pon Di Thin and doing that consistently, I salute Sarkodie.

Tiwa Savage

I love Tiwa Savage. The 34-year old singer/songwriter with the forever-young-face makes GOOD music. Thát in English and in Yoruba. Tiwa is a multi-talent. For those who don’t know Tiwa’s songs too much, she’s an Afro-pop star and she’s a songwriter who have crafted songs for the likes of Fantasia. Her own hits include Kele Kele, Ife Wa Gbona and Eminado. Google that!

Davido

I proclaimed my love for Davido multiple times. The reason why I know he’s that good is because his music style is diverse. If you compare his songs All Of You, Gobe and the single he recently dropped with Mafikozolo Tchelele. It’s like he can make any kind of African music. I love it!

Who is going to win?

The other artist that are nominated are Toofan (Togo) and Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), which are artists I love too. This is what makes it hard to determine who might win. From the looks of the records that were brought out the past year and based on the diversity of the artists, ABINA has a feeling Davido might take the price home. Yet! I root for all ladies in the Afro music scene, so I root for Tiwa. Other African nominees in other categories are Lupita N’Yongo (of course) and Chiwetel Ejifor.

Let’s take a minute to enjoy this day with a song from Diamond Platnumz – Number One
