Ok, it’s no joke: African Fashion Weeks are popping up from all continents. For real, there is a Los Angeles, Barcelona and London Fashion week. For a second, I thought Amsterdam was having one, but I haven’t received updates on that. Bummer about that one. BUT, Africa Fashion Week London’s (AFWL) preparation is in full effect. The fashion week for designers to showcase the best they have and for buyers to make their best selection is taking place on starting on 1st of August to the 3rd of August. Africa fashion lovers, designers, buyers and press, you better get ready!
I announced before about Africa Fashion Week London. It is said to be the largest African fashion exhibition outside of the African continent, which provides a global platform for emerging and established designers of African fashion. The first edition took place in August 2011 and now finally the 3rd edition is ready and set this August. I tell you. Fashion Weeks are the places for designers and brands to get good exposure. I cant wait! As for NYC one, hmmm these people. They are not responding my emails. And it’s a very bad thing!! But any way..
Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) takes place at the Old Truman brewey in Shoreditch, London. There is a different twist to this fashion week. This fashion week has ambassadors and a Face. The first ambassador is Menaye Donkor Muntari, philanthropist, former beauty queen and Ghanaian model. We have written about Mrs. Menaye Muntari before. Love her. She is definitely an inspiring person to look up to. And above all, she has the face to be one. Menaye will be working with Ronke Ademiluyi, founder and CEO of AFWL, and with The Face of AFWL 2013, Gambian/Senegalese model Regina Manneh. Noëlla Coursaris Musunka(Congolese) joins philanthropist Menaye Donkor Muntari, as a AFWL 2013 Ambassador for this third edition of AFWL. She is A fierce activist who works towards the empowerment of African girls and women, Noëlla has spoken at the UN and at the Kinshasa Parliament, and has had her work featured on the BBC’s Focus Africa. She spoke during the Opening Plenary of the 2012 Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting and she hosted the 2013 Cinema for Peace Gala for Humanity, where Ben Affleck received an award for his work in DR Congo. Speaking about positive accomplishments. Way to go!
On her appointment as AFWL Ambassador 2013, Noëlla said: “I am honored to be an ambassador for AFWL 2013 as I strongly believe in the power of fashion to inspire and connect people. I am delighted to be representing African designers and to help them showcase their talents for the world.”
