Africa Fashion Week Barcelona(AFWB) kicks off today, the 13th of June till Saturday the 15th and we are proud to announce that we will be present. I love how this multitasking works: our contributor Tania Habimana will be at F.A.C.E list awards in NYC and I’ll be viewing African fashion from a close bench in Barcelona, honey! I am excited and honored to be at this event. There are very promising designers who will be showcasing. Some we’ve admired at Blackfashionweek Paris last year. Find out who will be showcasing at the Fashion week. And what I think we can expect.
A fashion week is organized for designers to showcase their collections with the goal to have buyers buy in their collection. Also, fashion weeks are great channels to receive the needed publicity for a designers to reach their target groups. I always wondered: what fashion week was about, but it’s that simple. Now there are fashion weeks popping up around the world fully dressed in African themes. It’s wonderful. Who would have thought of such 15 years ago? We can expect the following designers at Africa Fashion week Barcelona.
Anthonia Raymond from Nigeria/ Holland with Ms. Ray
I personally know ms. Anthonia. This former beauty queen (Miss Africa Netherlands) is doing good. I like black women that work and make things happen. At first, when I saw her first couple of designs: I thought: lawd, another African lady who wants to design. But Ms. Ray is bringing it. Bringing all the way down to Barcelona!
Eva Gabarra. From first sight, Eva Gabarra’s collections seem quiet theatrical and heading for the Avant Garde direction. This is for the fans.
Ewaiso from Guinea Ecuatorial will be present.
Tina Lobondi from Malawi’s collection looks uberchic.
Lili Alfonso, also from Malawi has some cute stuff. I would wear some of their jackets
Mame Fagueye Ba. How can I forget her? She showcased at Blackfashionweek last year. She had that Whoopi Goldberg thing going on. Not my personal taste, but her fashion is strong and she has her signature looks. You should watch her show at Blackfashionweek here. Tell me what you think.
Martial Tapolo from Cameroon makes me want to snap my fingers twice. He went HARD at the Black fashionweek last year. I mean that in a good way. I couldn’t leave him out of my Blackfashionweek recap. It was all black and fabulous all the way through! I’m glad he’s coming.
Nafytoo has some nice lingerie and swim wear. Yes ma’am, very sexy. I would wear it.
Nomi by Naomi is no stranger to ABINA. It’s a fashion brand and person I respect. She also showcased at the Mercedes Benz Fashion week in Germany and she has yet greater things to tap into, I believe.
Well, that was about it. Enough to get our eyes tingling.
